Denmark, roared on by a passionate crowd in a red and white inferno began their quest for their fourth successive World Cup trophy with an extremely comfortable win of 47-22 over Algeria in Herning.
The match turned into an exhibition match for the three-time world champions against a nation that narrowly avoided last place at the World Cup two years ago.
The 12.000 crowd didn´t witness a spectacular handball-drama but instead they were treated to imaginative technical skills and magnificent counter attacking from a team capable of creating clear-cut scoring chances at almost every attack.
Denmark's new first goalkeeper Emil Nielsen received the biggest applause during the player presentation and awarded the applause by turning into Man of the Match for the Danish hosts.
The only thing that didn´t go to plan for the Danish favourites was that they gradually lost a bit of their concentration towards the end of the match given their enormous dominance and coach Nikolaj Jacobsen will also be concerned that Magnus Landin had to limp off with an injury after the break.
Mathias Gidsel scored on three out of his first four attempts, but as soon as the Danish defense got the upper hand on the North Africans, the world star showed his enormous value as a counter attacking player.
Gidsel managed to score ten goals, which made him Denmark's leading scorer, before he made way for Emil Madsen with 17 minutes left of the match.
Emil Jakobsen dished out a couple of his acrobatic goals from the left wing in the beginning of the match. He also took advantage of his free throws and consequently proved to be a worthy replacement for penalty expert Mikkel Hansen.
Emil Madsen was also rock-solid when he got the chance from the seven-metre line in the final minutes.
Denmark who extended their winning streak to 29 matcches on Tuesday night will now face another North African nation when they square off against Tunesia in Herning on Thursday night.
