Rutgers transfer Rene Konga drawing interest from Kentucky – A Sea Of Blue

Filed under:
Kentucky needs bodies on the d-line.
The transfer portal has reopened in college football, and the Kentucky Wildcats may be looking to bolster the defensive line.
According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, Rutgers defensive tackle Rene Konga is considering Kentucky. Other schools in the mix include Penn State, Miami, Wake Forest, and Cincinnati.
The 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive lineman played in 10 games as a part-time player this past season, recording eight tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble. In 2022, he appeared in 10 games while registering five tackles, one tackle for loss, and one sack.
Originally a class of 2020 prospect, Konga grew up in Canada and came to America for college football before signing with the Scarlet Knights. He was the No. 1 overall recruit from Canada while also being ranked 929th overall by 247 Sports Composite.
According to Pro Football Focus, Konga logged 189 defensive snaps last season off the bench, earning a 55.1 grade. He logged 150 snaps in 2022 and earned a much better 75.8 PFF grade. He’s also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
Kentucky has been hit hard with injuries on the defensive line, which had eight players already sidelined or who were injured in the spring football period. Expect Kentucky to pursue other names along the d-line in the coming weeks.
