Rs 125 crore T20 World Cup prize money breakdown: Who gets what? Find out now – Indiatimes.com

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has once again demonstrated its commitment to recognising excellence in Indian cricket. Following the Indian cricket team’s stunning victory in the T20 World Cup, the BCCI has announced a staggering Rs 125 crore prize money. This substantial reward is not only a testament to the players’ outstanding performance on the field but also acknowledges the crucial contributions of the coaching staff, support personnel, and even those behind the scenes. The BCCI’s decision to distribute this prize money comprehensively ensures that every individual who played a part in this historic win is celebrated and rewarded. Let’s take a closer look at how this impressive prize money will be divided among the deserving recipients.

Each of the 15 players in the squad will receive Rs 5 crore, including those who did not play a single game. This ensures that every team member, including the three reserves who didn’t get to play, is rewarded for their efforts and commitment throughout the tournament.

The head coach Rahul Dravid and the core coaching team, which includes batting coach Vikram Rathour, fielding coach T Dilip, and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, will each receive Rs 2.5 crore. This substantial reward acknowledges their pivotal role in the team’s success. Additionally, the five members of the senior selection committee, chaired by Ajit Agarkar, will be awarded Rs 1 crore each.

The backroom staff, including three physiotherapists, three throwdown specialists, two masseurs, and the strength and conditioning coach, will each receive Rs 2 crore. These behind-the-scenes heroes play a crucial role in maintaining the players’ fitness and readiness, and their efforts are being rightfully acknowledged.

The announcement of this generous prize money was made by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah the day after India’s victory. Shah confirmed that the Rs 125 crore prize money would cover not just the players but also the support staff, coaches, and selectors.
Comparing this to past rewards, the prize money has seen a significant increase. In 2013, after winning the Champions Trophy, the BCCI awarded Rs 1 crore to each player and Rs 30 lakh to each support staff member. In 2011, the World Cup-winning team received Rs 2 crore per player, and the support staff received Rs 50 lakh each. The inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 saw the team getting Rs 12 crore in total. Back in 1983, when India won their first World Cup, the BCCI did not have enough funds and had to rely on a concert by the late Lata Mangeshkar to reward the players.

Apart from the BCCI’s prize money, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced an additional Rs 11 crore reward for the team. This further adds to the celebration of India’s remarkable achievement on the global stage.
The BCCI’s generous prize money announcement not only highlights the financial rewards of winning but also underscores the importance of every individual’s contribution to the team’s success. This holistic approach to rewarding players and staff sets a new standard in recognizing the collective effort required to achieve sporting excellence.
Team India secured a massive Rs 21.13 crore in prize money for winning eight out of nine matches in the ninth edition of the tournament held in the USA and West Indies. South Africa, finishing as runners-up, received Rs 12.01 crore.
England and Afghanistan, whose journey ended in the semi-finals, each bagged Rs 6.55 crore for reaching the top four. Teams were also awarded Rs 25.9 lakh for each group stage win, while teams reaching the Super 8 stages clinched an extra Rs 3.18 crore each. Even teams finishing 13th to 20th earned Rs 1.87 crore each, despite not making it to the Super 8 round.
Jasprit Bumrah was named the Player of the Tournament after taking 15 wickets in eight innings at an impressive economy rate of 4.17. He also took two crucial wickets in the final, earning him the prestigious individual title and a $15,000 prize (Approx Rs 12.50 lakh). Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav also received significant cash prizes for their stellar performances in the final.
The T20 World Cup 2024 not only brought thrilling cricketing action but also substantial financial rewards for the teams and players. With the highest T20 World Cup prize money ever, the tournament has set a new benchmark for future competitions. The winners, runners-up, and even the teams that didn’t progress far received significant prize money, making the tournament a grand success for all participants.
