CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Rossview High boys’ soccer team hosted a sectional match against the Bartlett Panthers for the right to go to state tournament on Saturday, May 19. The Hawks had made it to sectionals the last three years but hadn’t advanced to state since 2019. However, everything changed when Rossview defeated Bartlett 4-1.
To begin the game, neither team could find a rhythm on offense. However, in the 29th minute, Rossview High’s own Graham Duncan found the net, which would be the lone goal of the first half.
In the second half, Bartlett found the net early to tie the game, but the Hawks responded in the 56th minute with a goal from Luke Rusell, pushing the score to 2 -1. The Hawks then added two insurance goals by Rusell and Duncan in the final two minutes to secure a 4-1 victory and advance to the 2023-24 state tournament.
With the win, it marks the program’s third time advancing in the state tournament. Now, the Hawks will head to Siegel High School in Murfreesboro to take on Hendersonville High in the state quarterfinal on Tuesday, May 21, at 4:30 p.m.
Correction: Rossview advanced to their third state tournament, not their fourth.
