The captain of the Indian team Rohit Sharma has spoke about his retirement rumors, stating that he still intends to play international cricket. Multiple reports have indicated that Rohit would call it quits in the shortest format after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. These remarks on his future, especially in T20 cricket, came after a recent decline in performance. His current priorities appear to be captaining India in the forthcoming T20 World Cup and possibly winning the World Test Championship in 2025 at Lord’s.
“My journey has been fantastic, it’s been 17 years. I wouldn’t retire for a few more years and want to create my mark in cricket,” commented Rohit on Dubai Eye 103.8.
The 37-year old also spoke on his captaincy. “I never imagined that I would be the captain of my country one day. It is the greatest honor one can have. Well, it’s true that good things do come to good people.”
“When I became the captain of the Indian team, all I wanted everyone to be on the same page because that’s how team sport should be played. It’s not about individual success, personal records, rather it’s about what the 11 of us can contribute to the team and win the trophy,” Rohit added.
The former MI skipper opened up on his challenges in life, “I have seen many ups and downs in life. And these times especially the bad ones have made me a better person,” he concluded.
