The draw for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers was fairly kind to the Greek national team on Friday, offering it a decent chance of advancing to the finals of soccer’s pinnacle competition for the first time in 12 years.
According to the results of the draw in Zurich, Greece will face the team to lose the UEFA Nations League playoffs between Portugal and Denmark, as well as Scotland and Belarus.
The winner of this group of four qualifies directly to the finals that will take place in the US, Mexico and Canada. The runner-up will join those of the other 11 qualifying pools plus four teams from the 2024-2025 Nations League for the playoffs that will constitute another chance to qualify to the World Cup finals.
All home and away games will be held next fall, starting in September and ending in November 2025.
Scotland is also Greece’s opponent in next March’s playoffs for promotion to the top level of the Nations League.
Due to sanctions, Belarus plays its home games in other countries.
