Even though the high school football season is still a few months away, the River Valley school board floated around ideas for where home games could be played this year at their meeting Tuesday night.
Board President Rick Harper said Hellas Construction fulfilled their end of the $4.2 million agreement, which entailed the installation of the football field, but opted not to take on additional tasks, leaving the district to find another company to complete electrical work and construction of the concession stand and fieldhouse. No action was taken regarding the fate of this year’s season, however two potential options were presented to the board. Harper explained those options.
The latter option could feature charging $5 per car upon entry and that fee would include admission to the game. The concession stand and fieldhouse would be done over the winter.
Board member Nathan Baird suggested hosting games at the Saltsburg campus for another year, as it would make it easier for fans and gameday staff members. Harper said that is one possibility, but the goal is to host games at the new complex this year.
Harper adds that Ernie Widmar Field is also in consideration for home games, but where the team will play football this season is a board decision.
More discussion is expected to come up at future meetings.
