Revolution's Christian Makoun named to Venezuela's roster for September FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – New England Revolution

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (August 31, 2023) – New England Revolution defender/midfielder Christian Makoun has been called up by the Venezuela Men’s National Team for a pair of matches in CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Colombia and Paraguay. Makoun will be with the Revolution this weekend before joining Head Coach Fernando Batista’s team. Venezuela visits Colombia on Thursday, Sept. 7, before traveling to Paraguay on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
Makoun has earned six senior caps, tallying one assist, in his international career with Venezuela. The 23-year-old most recently started at left back in a pair of friendlies last November against Panama and Syria. Makoun was also called up for friendlies in June 2023. The defender previously featured for Venezuela on 23 occasions at the youth levels, including 14 appearances for the Under-20 side, serving as captain nine times.
In MLS this season, Makoun has recorded one assist in seven appearances for New England, five of which were starts. Now in his fourth MLS season, Makoun owns 58 league appearances and 41 starts for his MLS career.
The Revolution conclude a two-game homestand on Saturday, Sept. 2 when New England hosts its first-ever encounter against Austin FC at Gillette Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish. With 10 matches remaining in the 2023 MLS regular season, New England sits second in the Eastern Conference entering the midweek action.
