USC football and Ole Miss have cancelled their home-and-home matchups for 2025 and 2026, according to a report on Tuesday from Clarion Ledger’s Michael Katz. The initial games were scheduled in 2020, years before USC made the stunning move to the Big Ten conference, which it will officially join this year.
Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter hinted at the possibility of the matchups not happening in the changing landscape of college football and the SEC moving towards a nine-game conference schedule.
USC’s 2025 slate will feature non-conference matchups with Georgia Southern and Notre Dame. The conference schedule includes a Coliseum matchup with Michigan and road games against Nebraska and Oregon.
Barring a coaching change in 2024, the 2025 matchup would’ve marked the first time that Ole Miss head coach and former USC head coach Lane Kiffin has returned to the Coliseum and faced his former team. The 2026 matchup would have marked the first time USC has played football in the state of Mississippi.

The Trojans have a high-profile matchup with LSU and the SEC to kickoff the 2024 season in Las Vegas. As of right now, this will be USC’s first matchup with an SEC program since it met Alabama in 2016.
That game was also a season opener and neutral site location (AT&T Stadium). The Crimson Tide blew out USC 52-6.
This matchup will be just the third matchup between the two blue-blood programs; the last meeting was a 23-3 victory by the Tigers in 1984 in Los Angeles. The first meeting was a 17-12 win in 1979 by USC in Baton Rouge.
