WEST LAFAYETTE − Mike Scherer has climbed up the college football ranks under the guidance of Barry Odom.
That will continue at the next stop in the career of both former Missouri linebackers.
Odom, a standout for the Tigers in the 1990s, later became the school’s head football coach.
One of the Tigers’ best defensive players during that time was Scherer, who followed Odom to Arkansas as a defensive analyst and linebackers coach before becoming UNLV’s defensive coordinator the past two seasons under Odom.
Now Scherer is coming with Odom to Purdue football‘s staff.

Football Scoop is reporting Scherer will join Odom in West Lafayette after having helped the Rebels go 11-3 and win the LA Bowl over Cal on Wednesday night, capping a season in which UNLV held opponents to an average of 21.3 points per game and had the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year in All-American linebacker Jackson Woodard.
