San Marcos girls soccer returned from Winter Break with a 3-0 loss in a non-league matchup with Calabasas High on Friday at Warkentin Stadium.
“Great effort and we created some moments but we just didn’t have scoring boots today,” Royals coach Miguel Vences said. “The girls played great even if the score doesn’t show it; we just lost the ball a few times in dangerous areas and Calabasas took advantage of those opportunities.
“Good teams will do that to you and it’s just another learning opportunity as we prepare for some challenging league games next week.”
The Royals will have a quick turnaround and take on San Luis Obispo High on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. at Warkentin Stadium.
Santa Barbara High boys soccer dropped a high-scoring affair with Thousand Oaks by a score of 5-3 on Friday at Peabody Stadium.
“Tonight we were able to get on the scoreboard three times and created more chances which is something we have been lacking the past six games,” Dons coach Ricardo Alcaraz said. “It helps that we are getting healthy at the right time and getting a few players back from injuries.”
The Dons began their scoring with a goal from freshman Ivan Jilote off an assist from EJ Manamea.

“Ivan has been out for the past month and gave a solid 40 minutes tonight,” Alcaraz said. “He got a goal, won his battles and kept the ball for us. We are glad he is back with the team.”
The second goal of the day came courtesy of Pablo Desales, who finished off a strong cross from Rangel Oliva.
“It was a great goal. Rangel is finally able to play with us and he gives us another threat up top, and Pablo as well, coming back from his injury, glad he got a goal tonight,” Alcaraz said.
Damian Leon rounded out the Dons’ scoring with a goal following an assist by Santiago Buenrostro.
“If we limit the mistakes tonight, the score would have been different,” Alcaraz said. “The mistakes are things we can fix in training.”
Santa Barbara High will return to Channel League play and host Buena on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m.
