PORT NECHES, Texas — Fans packed into Indian Stadium in Port Neches for the PNG Indian’s spring football game, hoping to get a taste of what’s to come in August.
The fans were also exited to cheer on their State Champions as they reaped the fruits of their labor.
As the annual spring football game got underway, it was the purple vs. white teams battling it out on the gridiron.
Each player was giving everything they had in hopes of securing a roster spot on the defending State Champion squad.
The hard fought game ended in a 17 to 17 tie.
However, the main event of the evening was the PNG Indians finally getting their State Championship rings.
12News spoke with players and head coach, Jeff Joseph, about what this moment means to them, and how they will remember it for the rest of their lives.
“This is the culmination of a ton of work. those kids deserve all the recognition in the world for what they accomplished last season,” said Joseph. “The ring’s going to be a reminder, and something they look at that’s going to bring back a ton of memories of a very special football season for them and our community.”
The players looked on in amazement at their shiny new achievement.
The customized engravings are just a reminder to players like quarterback and wide receiver Shae Adams, of how hard they worked to get to this point.
“It means a lot. A lot of schools are bigger and more athletic than us in a lot of aspects, but we’re a small town who’s hard working the whole time, had good coaches, and stayed dedicated,” said Adams.
As far as the rings design goes, Adams couldn’t be happier.
“It looks awesome! It really does. I’ve never had a ring this big before. I think my finger is starting to cramp up a little bit trying to hold this thing up!” said Adams.
Like his teammates, Adams says that he will display the ring proudly for the rest of his life.
It serves as a memory of what it took for their team to come home from Arlington as champions.
