JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – There is no goal for soccer fans in the metro. A national soccer association is suspending efforts to bring a professional team to this area.
The National Independent Soccer Association was working with the Hank Aaron Sports Academy and Tim Bennett to bring the club to Jackson.
Bennett tells WLBT 3 On Your Side that a non-disclosure agreement prevented him from making an announcement about the soccer team. Bennett says the suspension of the plans comes on the heels of legal entanglements brought on by the State of Mississippi’s request for the City of Jackson to relinquish its deed to Smith Wills Stadium.
Bennett says he continues to look for ways to engage youth in sports and to make a positive impact for Jackson. He says he hopes to try again for the professional soccer team in 2026.
On the legal battle, Bennett says he is not looking for a win but a resolution where everyone wins.
