Track and field legend Usain Bolt paid a high price while participating in a good cause.
The eight-time Olympic gold medalist announced Sunday he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during the Soccer Aid charity exhibition in London.

Bolt had been stretchered off the field midway through the match.

The 37-year-old was the captain for the World XI FC, a squad that included world football legends Michael Essien, Alessandro Del Piero, Eden Hazard, Petr Čech and Roberto Carlos.
Bolt is no stranger to the annual event, and he was among the goalscorers in the 2023 installment.

The Jamaican, who still holds the world record in the 100-meter dash, now faces a lengthy recovery period. At least he decided to call it quits on his track career a while ago, so the injury won’t be jeopardizing any serious athletic endeavors.
Bolt last competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where he defended his 100- and 200-meter titles for the second time. He retired altogether following the 2017 World Championships, where he placed third in the 100-meter dash.
