Papillion La Vista administrator, Omaha football player Yano Jones dies – WOWT

PAPILLION, Neb. (WOWT) – An administrative leader at a Papillion high school who played football at UNO — and went on to play for the Omaha Beef — has died.
Most recently, Yano Jones was the assistant prinicpal at Papillion La Vista South High School.
Papillion La Vista Community Schools sent a letter to staff and student families referring them a collection of online resources for talking with children about grief.
“We understand the significant impact Yano had on many students and staff within our school community,” the letter states. “…This news may be difficult for your student to process, and we encourage you to have an open and honest conversation with them about their feelings.”
The district also provided staff and student families access to grief counselors at the school for several hours this week.
6 News caught up with Jones eight years ago at Morton Middle School, where he helped organize First Responders Day there to give children an opportunity to interact with emergency crews — it was the kind of work he was known for.
He told us at the time: “We think its important for our kids to engage with local law enforcement as well as understanding the component of academics and how imporant that is and what it takes to get to that level — what it is going to take, what classes would I take.”
