Pakistan were handed a shock at the very start of their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. The Babar Azam-led side lost their first match of the competition, at the hands of co-hosts USA.
The Gary Kirsten-coached team came ever-so-close to winning in Dallas on Friday. Pakistan lost the super-over by five runs, after both teams scored 159-runs on the board in the usual 40-overs of play.

As it stands, Pakistan need to win at least two, if not all three remaining matches of the group stage. Otherwise, the 2022 T20 World Cup-finalists would be eliminated from the 2024 edition.
In the worst case scenario, should Pakistan fail to qualify for the Super 8s stage, it would be shameful, both for the present and  future! Here’s how…

It would be a disgrace if Pakistan were to bow out of the T20 World Cup 2024 after the group stages. Being placed in Group A, the Asian giants now need to win all three of their remaining fixtures. And one of them, is against arch-rivals, India. 
Babar Azam & Co. are at risk of potentially playing the T20 World Cup qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. Should Pakistan fail to make it past Group A, the World Cup qualifiers would come calling for the 2009 WC winners.

The Top 8 teams from the 2024 T20 World Cup get the direct qualification for the next T20 World Cup which is in 2026. Irrespective of the ICC T20 team rankings, teams failing to qualify for the Super 8s at the T20 World Cup 2024, will have to do it the hard way, for the 2026 WC by playing the qualifiers.
Should Pakistan fail to make it out of the group stage in the ongoing edition, they will face the same fate, like that of any other team.

After a heavy defeat against the United States on Friday, Paksitan get little time to make amends. Babar Azam & Co. will be back in action at the T20 World Cup 2024 as soon as Sunday. 
Head coach Gary Kirsten will face his former team India, at the Nassau County Stadium. The arch-rivals will lock horns on June 09 in New York.
