Former Penn State defenders Jameial J. Lyons and Kaveion A. Keys are facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, according to court dockets filed Tuesday. Lyons and Keys were dismissed from the Penn State football team on Aug. 3.
Lyons, 19, of Philadelphia, is facing felony charges for rape, aggravated assault without consent, voluntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated individual assault without consent. He is also facing two misdemeanor counts of indecent assault without consent of others and invasion of privacy without consent.
Keys, 19, of Richmond, Virginia, is facing felony charges for rape, aggravated indecent assault without consent and sexual assault. He is also facing a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault without consent of others.
According to the dockets, Lyons and Keys are currently set for a preliminary arraignment at 2 p.m. on Wednesday and a preliminary hearing at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 30. Magisterial District Judge Donald M. Hahn has been assigned the case. Bret Pallotto of the Centre Daily Times first reported the situation.
These charges stem from an alleged July 7 event, though an affidavit of probable cause has not yet been released.
On a similar timeline, Penn State police issued a Timely Warning on July 8 that was reported that day at 1:48 a.m. The Timely Warning stated that the incident occurred at 1 a.m. on July 7. A student reported an alleged sexual assault by a known perpetrator in an on-campus residence hall.
In a statement, a Penn State spokesperson wrote that the university is aware of the situation.
“We are aware of the serious charges against Mr. Keys and Mr. Lyons, who are no longer enrolled at the University. The safety of our community is our top priority, and Penn State takes any report of sexual assault or misconduct very seriously and investigates any and all reports.”

Both Lyons and Keys were entering their second seasons with the Penn State football team when a spokesperson confirmed the pair was placed on interim suspension to deal with a “personal matter” on July 31. On Aug. 3, a spokesperson confirmed the pair was no longer with the team.
Lyons played in eight games as a freshman, burning his redshirt. After recording 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack, he was widely regarded as a breakout candidate in Penn State’s defensive end group.
Keys redshirted in his first season but impressed enough during the offseason to be discussed among the 2024 linebacker rotation.
