The season and league awards are in for local high school soccer, and both Orcas Island High School and Lopez Island High School have strong representation on the Northwest 2B/1B (NW 2B/1B) lists.
Most Valuable Player
Lopez’s Andris Meissner, a junior, was named the league’s MVP. Meissner helped lead the Lobos to a championship game appearance and was a prolific player on the attack during both the regular season and the postseason.
Coach of the Year
Lopez Head Coach Mycah Kraushaar was named Coach of the Year for NW 2B/1B after a historic season and a championship game appearance.
“Mycah [Kraushaar] is incredibly deserving of the Coach of the Year award. She not only puts her time and energy into coaching, she puts her heart and soul into it as well. She is a young coach who approaches this career with a willingness to seek out new ideas and listen to advice to blend with her own foundational knowledge. She will do anything to help her athletes become better at their sport and become great people,” said Lopez Athletic Director Ginger Plum.
First Team All-League
The First Team included Lopez senior Ethan Patrick along with Orcas seniors Kevin Ibarra Garcia and Demitrio Salinas Cruz. Also named to the First Team was Orcas junior Joaquin Shanks Morales.
Second Team All-League
Orcas Island was well-represented in the Second Team All-League category, with Anthony Conejo (junior), Forrest Frausto (senior), Romero Lago (senior) and Lauro Quintero-Carrion all named to the Second Team. For Lopez, Henry Robles (senior) was the Lobos’ representative on the list.
All-League Honorable Mention
The league’s Honorable Mention list included Lopez’s Oliver Rick (junior), Rowdy Spreine and Rafa Valazquez (senior).
Sportsmanship Award – Lopez
Lopez received the sportsmanship award for this year’s soccer season. Their coach was pleased and honored with the award. “I’m proud of them and I think it was well deserved. They’ve really carried themselves with a lot of grace through this season,” said Kraushaar.
