Orange Lutheran’s football team will have new coordinators this coming season as it navigates a daunting nonleague schedule before the Trinity League.
The Lancers have named former Rams players Austin Pettis and Todd Lyght as their offensive and defensive coordinators, respectively, Orange Lutheran coach Rod Sherman said.
Pettis, a former standout wide receiver at Orange Lutheran and Boise State, replaces Aaron Corp as offensive coordinator.
Pettis arrives after serving as an assistant coach and passing game coordinator at Santa Margarita.
Sherman said Corp has moved out of state with his wife and is no longer coaching.
Lyght, an assistant coach at Villa Park last season, replaces Dubhe Ramirez as defensive coordinator.
Corp and Ramirez both served as coordinators in 2021 as the Lancers won the CIF-SS Division 2 title.
In the 1999 NFL season, Lyght helped the St. Louis Rams win the Super Bowl and earned All-Pro honors. The cornerback was an All-American at Notre Dame.
Orange Lutheran’s nonleague schedule features games against Serra of Gardena, Rancho Cucamonga, St. Frances Academy of Maryland, reigning national champion Bishop Gorman of Nevada and Sierra Canyon.
“(A) challenging schedule that is going to push us and make us better,” Sherman said.
Last season, the Lancers finished 5-6 overall, 2-3 in the Trinity League. This fall, they open league play against St. John Bosco.
