OSU turned to true freshman Maealiuaki Smith at quarterback while also going with other reserves.
Why? It’s time to see what Smith brings.
And it was a positive drive.
He completed an 11-yard pass and had a 5-yard carry.
It was running back Sesi Vailahi who capped the drive with an 11-yard TD run.

OSU’s defense got a stop. It only took Arizona State star Cam Skattebo being on the sidelines without shoulder pads. His day is done.
So, the Sun Devils went three-and-out, punting back to OSU. The Cowboys did get a 37-yard punt return by Kyler Pearson, who has been a bright spot today.

Another three-and-out for the Cowboys.
OSU got 5 yards on three plays and ultimately punted, essentially signaling that this is again not its night.

Cam Skattebo went over 1,000 yards on the season, though it feels like he rushed for all of that Saturday. The Sun Devils’ star had a 19-yard run to set up Kyson Brown’s 1-yard touchdown run shortly after OSU turned the ball over on downs.

Alan Bowman needed 5 yards. He only got 4.
The Cowboys’ quarterback was forced to keep the football on fourth-and-5. As two Arizona State defenders closed on him, he was unable to manuever enough to get the extra yard.
And OSU’s response to a three-touchdown deficit was to turn the ball over on downs on four plays. ASU took over on the Cowboys’ 34 with a huge chance to put the game way out of reach.

Cam Skattebo is making Saturday a nightmare for the Pokes.
Arizona State’s star running back caught a screen and scampered 36 yards for a touchdown, virtually putting the game away while adding to his impressive day.
He’s up to 134 rushing yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. He’s also got 121 yards and two touchdowns on four receptions.
On this drive, which begane in the third quarter, he accounted for 59 of the Sun Devils’ 88 yards.

OSU punted for the third time in as many possessions in the second half.
Arizona State blitzed on third down as OSU tried to set up a screen pass to Sesi Vailahi, but with pressure coming, Alan Bowman had to throw the ball before Vailahi was ready.
OSU has 44 total yards on three possessions in the second half.

A frantic scramble and throw to Cam Skattebo set up an Arizona State touchdown for a 28-14 lead at the 5:19 mark of the third quarter.
Kyson Brown finished off the drive with a powerful run on first-and-goal from the 7, pounding his way past a pair of tacklers for the score.
On the key scramble by Sam Leavitt, he pulled out of a sack attempt by OSU’s Obi Ezeigbo, spun around behind the pocket and floated to his left when Skattebo came open inside the 10-yard line.

Three straight incomplete passes led to an OSU punt on its second possession of the third quarter.
ASU remains in the lead 21-14 with under nine minutes left in the third quarter.

OSU’s Kody Walterscheid read a called quarterback draw by Sam Leavitt on third down, stopping him for a loss and forcing an Arizona State punt.
Instead of rushing outside, like Walterscheid normally does as a defensive end, he moved along the line of scrimmage and was in position when Leavitt tried to sprint up the middle.
Arizona State managed one first down on the drive, that coming on a powerful run by Cam Skattebo on second-and-3.

OSU had to punt on its opening possession of the second half after Ollie Gordon II was stopped less than a yard short of a first down.
With the wet field potentially making the passing game difficult, OSU threw only one pass in five plays on the drive.
OSU left tackle Isaia Glass limped off the field early in the possession, but missed just one play.
The OSU drive began at its 17-yard line after Kyler Pearson’s 98-yard kickoff return touchdown was wiped out by a holding penalty. It was OSU’s first penalty of the game.

After a weather delay that went into effect during halftime, the Oklahoma State-Arizona State game is scheduled to resume at 7 p.m. — roughly three hours after the second quarter ended.
OSU, trailing 21-14, will receive to start the second half.
With lightning moving out of the area and heavy rains having passed the stadium, players are expected to take the field at 6:30 p.m. for stretching.
The second half will be televised on Fox in the Oklahoma and Arizona markets, as well as FS1 and FS2 nationally.

Cam Skattebo leapt into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown run  with 16 seconds left in the second quarter for a 21-14 Arizona State lead.
The drive was kept alive by a pair of pass plays to convert third-and-long situations. The first was a 30-yard pass to Jake Smith and the next was an 11-yard throw to Jordyn Tyson.
Skattebo set up the touchdown when he bounced outside for a 9-yard gain to the 1.
OSU did not attempt to run a play after the ensuing kickoff, taking the game to halftime. The Cowboys get the ball to start the third quarter, though lightning is moving toward the stadium and could result in a delay.

On a drive that included an impressively tough play by Brennan Presley on a fourth-down catch, Ollie Gordon II fought his way into the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown run.
That ties the game at 14 with 5:26 left in the second quarter.
The fourth-down catch by Presley — a 6-yard gain on fourth-and-5 — kept the drive alive and looked like it might result in a targeting call on Arizona State’s Jordan Crook. But after review, the targeting call was waved off.
Presley now has four reception on the day, leaving him eight behind Rashaun Woods’ program record, and nine away from becoming OSU’s all-time leader in catches.

Facing fourth-and-1 at the 50, Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo slipped out of the backfield uncovered, catching a pass and going the distance for a touchdown. ASU leads 14-7d with 9:18 left in the first half.
OSU looked like it had Sam Leavitt stopped for a big loss on third-and-8, but the quarterback pulled out of a tackle, spun through another and gained 7.

Brennan Presley doesn’t exactly have long arms, but they were long enough for a touchdown.
The 5-foot-8 receiver stretched just long enough to break the plane of the goal line for the game-tying touchdown on a fourth-and-goal from the 1. That tied the game at 7 early in the second quarter.
OSU believed it had scored on first down when Ollie Gordon II powered into the end zone, but the play was wiped out when officials ruled the ball had been snapped while an injured Arizona State player was down on the field.
The injury occurred after OSU’s De’Zhaun Stribling caught a 36-yard pass to the 4.

Alan Bowman threw behind receiver Rashod Owens and into the gut of Arizona State’s Javan Robinson for an interception. ASU leads 7-0 late in the first quarter.
After the play, ASU defensive end Justin Wodtly was ejected from the game for spitting on an OSU player. The unsportsmanlike conduct penalty moved the ball back to the ASU 33 to start the drive.
Owens stayed down after the play with pain in his torso.

The OSU injury report hasn’t been good for a while, but the news Saturday is that it hasn’t gotten any longer.
Expected absences like left tackle Dalton Cooper, quarterback Garret Rangel and defensive stars Collin Oliver and Nick Martin filled the pregame injury report from OSU radio voice Dave Hunziker.
He also said safety Trey Rucker isn’t fully healthy but is expected to play. Rucker missed the BYU game, but returned last week at Baylor.

Connor Onion (play-by-play) and Mark Helfrich (analyst) will be on the call.
