SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The University of Notre Dame has officially broken ground on a new, state-of-the-art football operations facility.
The new Jack and Kathy Shields Family Hall will be located on the east side of campus along Courtney Lane. It’s expected to open in the fall of 2026.
“Notre Dame has long been committed to both athletic success and care for the well-being of our student-athletes, and this new facility will help us to excel on the field while we advance the study of sports science, nutrition and medicine on campus, with benefits for athletes everywhere,” said Notre Dame President Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place hours before the annual Blue-Gold Game at Notre Dame Stadium.
At 150,000 square feet, Shields Family Hall will offer a nearly 50% increase in space over the existing Guglielmino Athletics Complex (“Gug”), which opened in 2005.
It will feature:
A price tag for the project was not disclosed. But according to our reporting partners at the South Bend Tribune, it’s estimated to be in the neighborhood of $100 million.
Five former Notre Dame student-athletes are contributing to the new facility, led by former linebacker Jack Shields.
