Sanju Samson has been in and out of the Indian team in white-ball formats. Despite his talent, the right-handed batter has not had enough chances, which is a big reason behind his inconsistent performances in limited opportunities.
He wanted to be a part of the Playing XI in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final under a captain like Rohit Sharma but missed the chance. For him, it is one of the biggest regrets of his life.
Rohit announced his retirement from the shortest format after winning the T20 World Cup in the United States of America and the West Indies.
“I wanted to be a part of the final and do something since childhood. I respected Rohit Sharma’s decision not to include me in the playing group in the final against South Africa. He explained the reason, and I accepted it.
“I told him that I would regret not playing in the T20 World Cup final under a captain like him. It is one of the biggest regrets of my life that I was not there in the playing XI when Rohit Sharma led the team,” Sanju Samson told Vimal Kumar.
“I thought that you changed your decision before a big game like a World Cup final. You spoke to me for 10 minutes before the toss despite knowing that you were not going to include me in the final. He gave me 10 minutes before the toss and I came to know that this person has some other qualities as well,” he added.
Samson finally managed to justify his place in the team with a fine 111 runs off 47 balls in the third and final T20I against Bangladesh in the recent series. He will now be a part of the team for the T20I series in South Africa.
