The 2026 FIFA World Cup, the world’s largest sporting event, is set to bring global attention to North Texas, and local universities are vying for a role in the tournament.
The University of North Texas, Dallas Baptist University, Texas Christian University, and the University of Dallas in Irving are among the potential base camps for international teams. Toyota Stadium in Frisco is also in the running.
DFW leads all metro areas with five of the 49 potential base camp locations across the U.S. and Mexico competing to host one of the tournament’s 48 teams. AT&T Stadium in Arlington is already slated to host nine matches, including a semifinal.
The event is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of fans to the region, offering a significant economic and cultural boost.
