Nigeria and Spain both secured quarter-final places at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a game to spare.
Group A – Nigeria 4-0 Ecuador, Dominican Republic 1-1 New Zealand Group B – Spain 5-0 South Korea, Colombia 0-2 USA
Nigeria booked a quarter-final berth with back-to-back wins, defeating Ecuador 4-0 with a brace by Shakirat Moshood (including a penalty) and one each from Harmony Chidi and Peace Effiong.
Host nation, the Dominican Republic got off the mark by drawing with New Zealand, Renata Mercedes conceding an own-goal but Yuleinis Brito equalising seven minutes later.
Spain sealed a slot in the last eight with five goals against South Korea, Pau Comendador, Celia Segure, Iris Santiago, Emma Moreno and Ainoa Gomez all finding the net.
The USA’s first points came with a 2-0 victory over Colombia, Micayla Johnson breaking the deadlock just before half time, Kennedy Fuller converting a penalty close to the hour mark.
