Former international, Sam Sodje has admonished the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and other sports stakeholders to put up their thinking caps to fully prepare the Super Eagles for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Speaking with The Guardian in Oleh, an agrarian community in Isoko South local government area of Delta State, Sodje said his admonition was as a result of not -too -impressive performance of the Super Eagles, lately.
The ex Super Eagles player said he was still nursing the pains from the 2-1 home defeat of the Super Eagles by Rwanda, lamenting that the Nigerian players were not positioning themselves to win the game.
While bemoaning the Lukewarm attitude of the players when it comes to playing for Nigeria, he advised them to see the importance of the game and start applying themselves to it to bring honour to themselves and the country.
“We were missing some creative players. I think for now we are not good to go; because the players are not doing themselves justice. They are not applying themselves well when they come to play for Nigeria.
“If we start playing the way we are playing now, we are going nowhere, we are going to continue to struggle, so we have to go back to the drawing board and make sure we do the needful otherwise we are progressing in error, which of course, it will not be well with us when we meet some big teams”.
Following this development, Sam Sodje then cautioned the NFF to wake up from sleep and face reality now to avoid further defeats
“We have to go back to the technical side of NFF, to do things right, and if we don’t get it properly now, I’m afraid, we will even not get it right in the international games”, he emphasized.
The ex international footballer also advised the NFF to beam it search light on the Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguaveon, saying at the moment his result is not looking good, so NFF has to look into it and make sure they do the right things”.
