There’s a new sports team in Summerland looking to reign atop the Okanagan men’s soccer scene.
Backed by Detonate Brewing and iKhaya Day Spa, the Summerland-based club recently played its inaugural game in the South Okanagan Men’s Soccer League.
F.C. Detonate claimed a 7-1 victory in their opening match on April 25 at Penticton’s King Park Field.
Corey Bennett, the team’s goalkeeper, held Summerland’s opponents to just one marker. Julio Senties and ‘Luka’ Nyuon were among the team’s goalscorers.
The local club — coached by Jeremy Dresner — recently held its season-opening gala at Detonate Brewing, where sponsors, players and uniforms were unveiled.
The South Okanagan Men’s Soccer League’s outdoor season runs from April to October, with the first-place game set for Oct. 24 at Kings Park Field.
Athletes from Osoyoos to Summerland play on the league’s six teams.
Summerland soccer fans can watch F.C. Detonate take part in league play every Thursday at King’s Park, Fields No. 1 and 2, at 8 p.m.
