The battle for Volusia-Flagler high school soccer supremacy will unfold over the next few days.
Both the boys and girls Five Star Conference tournaments kick off with the quarterfinals Tuesday. The semifinals will follow on Wednesday before the championships Friday.
The higher seeds host. Seeding is based on the FHSAA rankings.
In the boys bracket, defending champion New Smyrna Beach possesses the top spot. The Barracudas (7-1-4) sat 16th in the poll released Dec. 31. 
Second-seeded Spruce Creek (44th) and third-seeded Flagler Palm Coast (80th) also resided among the top 100. Matanzas held the 62nd spot in the state, but the Pirates are not a Five Star Conference team and will not appear in the tournament.
On the girls side, Spruce Creek locked up the No. 1 seed, though New Smyrna Beach moved slightly ahead in the Dec. 31 rankings. The Hawks (8-4-2) were 102nd, and the Barracudas (8-3-2) were 98th. They tied 1-1 in their lone meeting this season.
Flagler Palm Coast grabbed the third seed, and last year’s winner, Seabreeze, is fourth.
The final day of the regular season looms less than two weeks away on Jan. 18. District tournaments will commence on Jan. 22.
