Netflix to broadcast Women's World Cup 2027 and 2031; we give you all the details
Netflix and FIFA have signed an agreement granting the streaming giant exclusive broadcasting rights in the United States for the next two FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments, as confirmed by the global football governing body on Friday.
For the first time, FIFA has separated broadcasting rights from the men’s tournaments, opening an independent bidding process for the 2027 and 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cups. While Fox holds the broadcasting rights for the men’s World Cup through 2026, this decision marks a significant shift in FIFA’s strategy.
The announced deal represents a historic milestone in sports broadcasting, as it is the largest contract FIFA has signed with a streaming platform for an event of this scale. The financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed.
The tournament will run from June 24 to July 25, 2027.

According to FIFA, the 10th edition of the tournament, featuring 32 teams and 64 matches, will take place in Brazil.
The tournament will feature ten host cities for the matches:
Both the opening match and the final will be held at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
According to the streaming platform, Netflix will provide coverage in the United States with broadcasts available in both English and Spanish.
The programming will include in-depth studio analysis and contributions from renowned talents, offering commentary and high-quality entertainment. Additionally, in the lead-up to the tournament, Netflix will release an exclusive documentary series spotlighting football stars, their personal stories, and the global rise of the sport.
The host for the 2031 tournament has not yet been decided; however, it is anticipated that the United States will submit a bid to host the event.
Spain’s national team are the reigning champions of this global tournament.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup, held over nine editions, has seen only five countries claim the title.
The United States leads as the most successful team with four championships, followed by Germany with two titles. Meanwhile, Norway, Japan, and Spain have each secured the championship once.
The first official women’s football match took place on March 23, 1895, in London, England.
Marta Vieira da Silva is widely regarded as one of the greatest female footballers in history. Her achievements include five consecutive FIFA Player of the Year awards from 2006 to 2010, a record unmatched in women’s football.
Born on February 19, 1986, in Dois Riachos, Brazil, Marta received her first award as FIFA Women’s Player of the Year at age 20. In 2019, she reached another milestone, becoming the all-time leading scorer in FIFA World Cup history.
