The Nepal U-19 women’s cricket team was officially bid farewell ahead of their participation in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) organised a farewell program in Kathmandu on Friday, attended by Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary, CAN Vice President Roshan Singh, Secretary Paras Khadka, and members of CAN, along with senior women’s team captain Indu Barma.
Speaking at the event, CAN Secretary Paras Khadka encouraged the players to perform without pressure, while Minister Chaudhary expressed confidence in the young team’s ability to deliver an exceptional performance. He praised CAN’s recent efforts and highlighted the importance of collaborating with schools to nurture talent from an early age.
Team captain Pooja Mahato thanked CAN for entrusting her with the captaincy and promised a strong performance in the World Cup. “We performed well in the Asia Cup, defeating Pakistan. Now, we will strive to create history in the World Cup. With good play, anything is possible,” she said.
Head coach Mahesh Prasad Rijal shared that the team had undergone extensive preparation, including training sessions in Chitwan. “The World Cup provides a platform to showcase our potential, and I am hopeful for a strong performance,” he added.
Senior women’s team captain Indu Barma congratulated the U-19 team for making history by qualifying for the World Cup and wished them success in achieving remarkable results.
The Nepal U-19 women’s team is set to depart for Malaysia on Saturday afternoon.
