COMMENTS: A swap at the top, where Marian replaces Southwest despite the latter winning in a shootout when the teams met last month. It’s the only loss of the season for Marian, which has outscored opponents 70-1 since. The Crusaders host Millard West on Monday night. Southwest dropped its first of the campaign in overtime to Lincoln Pius X in last week’s Heartland Athletic Conference tournament. Pius makes the jump in the rankings behind three big wins in the span of four days. The Bolts followed up the Southwest victory with one against Lincoln East the next night in the HAC final, then capped the stretch with a shootout win Saturday over Westside.
1. Gretna East, 14-1, 1
2. Norris, 12-1, 2
3. Omaha Duchesne, 11-1, 3
4. Omaha Skutt, 8-4, 4
5. Bennington, 9-4, 5
6. Elkhorn, 10-4, 6
7. Blair, 10-3, 7
8. Columbus Scotus, 9-3, 8
9. Omaha Mercy, 8-6, 9
10. Ralston, 9-3, NR
COMMENTS: Status quo for much of the rankings, with the only change being Ralston taking Omaha Roncalli’s spot after a 3-1 win when the two met on Thursday. The jockeying for postseason positions isn’t over, though. Keep an eye on this week’s River Cities Conference tournament, where three-time defending state champion Skutt could get a real challenge to their RCC throne. The SkyHawks have won 18 straight conference crowns, but may see a Duchesne team that they lost to earlier in the year.
