LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) – Millard South captured its first state championship in 15 years, unseating the two-time defending champs Westside, 27-10.
The Patriots scored 21 unanswered with all three touchdowns going to senior receiver Aamir Hill to come away with the victory and snap the Warriors Class A record 32-game win streak.
“I’m just really happy for these guys, they deserve it,” head coach Ty Wisdom said. “They’ve put in the work day-in and day-out and now they really get to reap the rewards of being Class A state champs.”
Westside went into the game without head coach Paul Limongi, who was unavailable due to an illness.
The Patriots defense had the Warriors wrapped up for most of the game, expect for a Tay Tay Jenkins 63-yard touchdown. After a field goal, Westside led 10-6 going into the locker room.
Millard South found their rhythm in the second half. Quarterback Jett Thomalla found Hill for a 36-yard strike to regain the lead, 13-10. With 5:28 remaining in the fourth, a scrambling Thomalla rolled right, flinging a pass to a diving hill to add insurance, 20-10. After Westside went three and out, Hill broke free for his biggest play yet: an 81-yard run for his third and final touchdown of the night to seal the win for the Patriots.
“It just happened, it was there, I took the opportunity, I made the most of it,” HIll said. “It feels amazing. It’s so good, I could shed a tear.”
