Michigan football’s hot streak on the recruiting trail continued Saturday as Donovan Johnson committed to Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines.
Johnson, from IMG Academy, pledged days after a midweek visit to Ann Arbor. He joins a 2025 class now comprising nine commitments, including the recent additions of Top100 safety Kainoa Winston and fellow running back Jasper Parker.
Johnson is rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 232 overall recruit in the class of 2025. He is also a star track athlete and qualified for the AAU Junior Olympics, though a knee injury sidelined him for his 11th-grade athletic season. His strong relationship with Tony Alford — which began when the running backs coach was at Ohio State — was a factor in his decision to pick the Maize and Blue.
Michigan has been heating up on the recruiting trail over the last two weeks with multiple commitments in two different classes. This weekend’s official visitor list is full of prospects who could eventually be Wolverines as well, as 247Sports’ Steve Lorenz detailed prior to the weekend. He wrote:
Among the headliners this weekend are four-star offensive lineman Hardy Watts, four-star defensive tackle Maxwell Roy and three-star linebacker Chase Taylor. All three of those prospects have predictions in for the Wolverines. All three of them have been longtime top targets for the staff; they’re battling Clemson and Wisconsin for Watts, Ohio State for Roy and USCGeorgia Tech and South Carolina for Taylor.
Offensively, another notable name for the Wolverines is Pennsylvania Top100 tight end Andrew Olesh. Michigan and tight ends coach Steve Casula have gone all out for the four-star, who has the looks of a potential immediate impact player for whatever school he signs with. Penn State is the main competition here with Florida and Alabama likely trailing.
There are four other offensive targets that Michigan may be in good position with in town also. Four-star offensive lineman Kaden Strayhorn is back up; the staff likes him as their potential center in the class and they may lead. Three-star wide receivers Taz Williams Jr. and Jacob Washington are also in Ann Arbor. Michigan is up against Penn State and Texas A&M for Williams Jr. and Georgia Tech among others for Washington. Washington is teammates with running back Jasper Parker, who committed to Michigan last weekend during his official visit.
Also heading into town are verbal commitments defensive linemen Nate MarshallJaylen Williams (unofficial), Bobby Kanka and quarterback Carter Smith. The aim of each of these trips is to help recruit others into the class.
