Men’s Soccer Wins Regular Season Title, Women’s Soccer Closing Strong, Basketball Begins – LetsGoDU


Head Coach Jamie Franks led Denver Men’s Soccer (11-2-1, 6-1-0) to yet another Summit League Conference regular season title, their 10th in the Summit League. The Pioneers clinched the top spot in Tulsa Saturday when they defeated Oral Roberts 1-0. Redshirt junior Ian Smith scored the game-winning goal 17 minutes into the second half with a helper from Ronan Wynne. Denver still has one regular season match remaining on Saturday against Omaha. The Summit League Tournament will be held at Pioneer Field a week later with the Pioneers as the top seed.
Denver Women’s Soccer (11-5-2, 5-1-2 Summit) closed the season undefeated in their last five games with four wins and a tie, sweeping South Dakota State (2-1) and South Dakota (2-0) on the road, to wrap up the regular season. Denver earned the second seed for the Conference Tournament in Fargo, North Dakota with North Dakota State in the top spot. Denver plays #3 seed South Dakota State at 11:00 am Thursday, November 7th.
Denver Women’s Volleyball (10-12, 5-7) split their matches this past week. They fell to St. Thomas on the road 3-1 and swept North Dakota State 3-0 at Hamilton Gym. Kansas City and North Dakota travel to Denver on Thursday and Saturday, respectively, to continue conference play before DU concludes with two road matches to end the regular season.
Denver Men’s Basketball opens its season today, Monday, against Stanford in Palo Alto. If you missed our season preview, head over there now and get up to speed!
Denver Triathlon travels to Claremont, Florida on Saturday for the Collegiate National Championships. DU’s Maira Carreau will be defending her NCAA title and Denver could win its 36th national team title – a long shot but possible.
