Mears Narrowly Misses Out On Medal At IWF World Cup – RJR News

Jamaica’s Omarie Mears just missed out on a medal at the International Weightlifting Federation World Cup underway in Thailand.

Mears placed 4th in the men’s 81 kg category after amassing a combined total of 264 points. He had recorded scores 119 in the snatch competition and 145 in the clean and jerk section.

James Daley, the second member of Jamaica’s 2-man team at the championships, placed 8th in the men’s 96 kg category. Daley amassed a combined total of 251 points.

He recorded scores of 113 in the snatch competition and 138 in the clean and jerk section.

The IWF World Cup is the final qualification opportunity for weight lifters seeking to secure qualification to this summer’s Olympics in Paris.

It closes out an 18-month long, globe-spanning qualification campaign. The event ends on Thursday.
