McLeod Selected as NEWMAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week – WPI Athletics

Westwood, MA — WPI Women’s Soccer’s senior Lottie McLeod (Newton, MA) was selected as the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending on October 6th.

Joining McLeod in the weekly honors is Linae Bizdek of Emerson who was named the league’s Offensive Athlete of the Week.

The Engineers’ senior back played a critical role as WPI went 1-0-1 in a pair of NEWMAC games last week. McLeod anchored a defensive effort on Saturday that led to a 0-0 draw with Smith. Earlier in the week, she helped the Crimson and Gray defeat Babson on the road, 3-1, including converting a penalty kick in the eighth minute for what proved to be the game-winning goal and later clearing a ball off the line.

This week’s honor marks the first-career nod for McLeod from the NEWMAC and the first of the 2024 season for the women’s soccer program.

WPI (5-2-4, 2-0-2 NEWMAC) enjoys a break for A-Term finals this week before returning to the pitch on Saturday against Worcester-city and conference foe Clark scheduled for a 1pm start at the Granger Athletic Complex.
