MBA football didn’t need to look far to find its next head coach, announcing it has elevated defensive coordinator Chris Chauvin on Wednesday.
Chauvin, a Father Ryan graduate, takes over for Marty Euverard who resigned last month after 14 seasons at MBA. Chauvin arrived with Euverard in 2011 as Euverard’s defensive coordinator, crafting a unit that helped the Big Red capture a TSSAA state championship (2014) and six state runner-up finishes, including three straight from 2015-17. The pair won 121 games at MBA together.
The hiring of Chauvin should make for a smooth transition as MBA comes off a 4-8 season. The Big Red have only nine wins in its last two seasons.
But Chauvin’s most impressive season may have been in 2019. Only three teams scored more than 21 points on MBA that season. The team went an eight-game stretch of not giving up more than 14 points as the Big Red’s defense gave up on average 12.1 points a game.
The Tennessee Football Coaches Association recognized Chauvin as the Broyles Award recipient, given to the state’s top assistant on the same night Euverard was inducted into the TnFCA Hall of Fame in February of last year for the 2023 season.
Chauvin takes over a highly-coveted program in Middle Tennessee and one of the most successful in the state. MBA has 37 state playoff appearances, 10 state runner-up finishes and nine state championships, tied for fourth all-time with Trousdale County. The Big Red have not missed the state playoffs since 2007 and have only missed it twice since 1994.
