Mason Greenwood reportedly wants to sit down with Thomas Tuchel and the Football Association to discuss a route back into the England national team.
The forward, 23, has scored five goals in seven appearances since joining Marseille in the summer and earned one England cap in 2020.
He was charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour in October 2022, but the charges and case were dropped in February 2023 when key witnesses withdrew.
Considering that Manchester United let him go and that there was huge backlash to him joining Marseille, it would no doubt prove divisive to re-admit him into the national set-up.
But he is determined to be a part of Tuchel’s regime to make the 2026 World Cup, and will switch allegiance to Jamaica if he is barred, as per The Sun.
Mason Greenwood reportedly wants to talk with Thomas Tuchel about playing for England
He won a cap in 2020 and is determined to play at the 2026 World Cup for England or Jamaica
Greenwood saw charges of attempted rape and assault against him dropped last year
The Bradford-born striker is eligible to play for the Caribbean nation through his paternal grandparents.
A source told The Sun: ‘Mason knows his chances of playing for England again are very slim. But he wants to check with the FA and Tuchel now he has been appointed to see what they think.
‘He is determined to play at the highest level and that means the World Cup.
‘So if England don’t want him, he’ll switch to Jamaica and try and get to the 2026 World Cup that way.’
Gareth Southgate never ruled out Greenwood making a future return but amid his legal case did admit it was not a ‘consideration’ to include him.
His only cap came against Iceland in September 2020, but he was sent home from the camp alongside Phil Foden after footage emerged of the pair bringing two women back to the team hotel despite Covid-19 restrictions.
Greenwood may take hope from how Lee Carsley’s interim management showed a willingness to consider a range of stars for the national team, including first-time call-ups for Angel Gomes, Noni Madueke, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Tino Livramento.
Tuchel has agreed an 18-month deal to take England to the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, Canada, and the United States of America.
The former Manchester United forward, 23, has found form playing for Getafe and Marseille
Tuchel has been appointed on an 18-month, £6million-per-year contract to manage England
The German is on £6million per year and arrives with high expectations, though his appointment has seen its own backlash.
Tuchel has an impressive CV having won league titles with Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, as well as the Champions League, Super Cup, and Club World Cup at Chelsea.
The FA interviewed 10 candidates for the role but opted to make him their third-ever non-British manager.
Greenwood is set to become a dad for the second time as he is expecting another child in the new year with his partner Harriet Robson in the New Year.
He revealed his first child, daughter Summer, had been born in July 2023 and the 23-year-old is not set to grow his family further next year.
