Marshall soccer fell just short in its quest for a second national championship Monday night.
The Thundering Herd lost 2-1 in overtime to Vermont on a Max Kissel sudden victory goal nearly halfway through the first extra period.
Marshall was the first team to get on the board with 23:19 remaining in the game off a Tarik Pannholzer goal, but the Catamounts were quick to tie it up 14 minutes later.
The teams remained knotted as time expired, sending the match to overtime and setting up Kissel’s game winner.
The title win is the first for Vermont in what was a magical run for the unseeded team that saw it come back multiple times in the tournament.
