Marquette Men’s & Women’s Soccer Hire Some Assistant Coaches – Anonymous Eagle

Filed under:
Chris Allen recently announced two assistant coaches, which reminded me I forgot to say anything about David Korn’s latest addition in early April
On the 1st of May, Marquette women’s soccer head coach Chris Allen announced the addition of two assistant coaches for his staff. I am going to presume that the athletic department waited until both were hired and working on campus before announcing this, because otherwise Allen’s been running the program entirely on his own since he was hired in mid-January and WHOOOO, that sounds tiring.
Anyway!
Chelsea Davis and Jacqueline Baetz are joining Allen’s staff for his first year in Milwaukee. Here’s what he said about his new crew:
“I am ecstatic to announce two coaching staff additions who are as passionate, excited and committed to the process of returning the Marquette women’s soccer program back to BIG EAST and national prominence as I am,” Allen said. “Chelsea and Jacqueline are two of the most engaging, positive, enthusiastic, tough and relentless people I have had the privilege of being around.
“Simply put, they are going to make me better, our program better and this already special Marquette community that much better. I was always told that good people tend to find good people, and I am glad they found us.”
It might just be a coach-speak kind of thing, but I like the “they found us” bit at the end.
Davis is the assistant with more coaching experience behind her. She comes to Marquette after serving as head coach for Division 3 Pacific University Oregon for the past two years, and then the head coach at D3 Palomar College the year before that. Davis has Division 1 experience at both San Francisco and Fresno State, and it’s that last one where she played as a midfielder and won three WAC championships.
Baetz has the more recent playing experience, making 50 starts for Missouri State before spending the 2022 season as a grad transfer on a bonus season of eligibility with Lindenwood. She was a All-Missouri Valley Conference midfielder with MSU three times and earned All-Newcomer honors in the OVC during her one year with Lindenwood. Baetz moved from the field to the sideline with the Lions last year to get started on a coaching career.
Seeing the press release about Allen’s two new assistants reminded me that I just completely whiffed on mentioning an addition to David Korn’s staff on the men’s soccer side of things. Waaaaaaaaaaay back on April 10th, Korn and Marquette announced the hiring of Zach Neiberger as an assistant coach. He joins Callum Mallace and Sean Clancy on the staff for Korn’s first season as head coach in 2024.
Here’s what Korn said about him in the press release at the time:
“Since meeting Zach, we’ve been impressed with the energy, ambition and expertise he brings. His experience playing at high levels within Division 1 as well as coaching at the collegiate level will be an asset to our team and staff,” Coach Korn highlighted on the addition. “Zach’s ability to build relationships will be beneficial to our student-athletes and recruiting process. He’s passionate about seeing our Marquette soccer program excel on and off the field.”
Neiberger has been at St. Cloud State since 2020, helping the Huskies establish their program at the Division 2 level and having been there from (almost) nearly the start. He also has coaching experience at Hamline in D3, and he played at the Division 1 level at both San Diego State and Milwaukee before medically retiring due to concussions.
The next question for both teams is the most obvious one: Who y’all playin’ next season? Last year, we got the schedules for both squads in early June, so it might be a minute before get any answers to that question.
