LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – We have learned the man at the center of a high-profile murder involving a UK football player has been arrested again.
According to court documents, Shane Ragland was arrested on charges of domestic violence and terroristic threatening for an incident that happened June 15 in Frankfort.
On June 18, one of his mother’s friends told police that he was forcing the mother out of her home. When she was able to get back inside, the friend told police Ragland ran over her with his motorized wheelchair and hit her with his arms and hands.
It was also reported that Ragland threatened to kill his mother’s friend, and if he could get ahold of his gun, he would shoot her in the head.
Ragland was convicted of the 1994 murder of UK football player Trent Diguro. That conviction was later overturned, but he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter. He was released for time served, but a series of charges and court appearances have followed in the years since.
In court Thursday, Ragland pleaded not guilty to these new charges. The judge also said he could not return to his mother’s home nor be in possession of a firearm. Court records also show Ragland’s mother has filed for a protective order against him.
