FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (October 6, 2023) – New England Revolution defender/midfielder Christian Makoun has been called up by the Venezuela Men’s National Team for a pair of matches in CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup 26 qualifying against Brazil and Chile. Makoun will depart on Sunday to join Head Coach Fernando Batista’s team as Venezuela visits Brazil on Thursday, Oct. 12 and hosts Chile on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
Makoun has earned seven senior caps, tallying one assist, for ‘La Vinotinto.’ The 23-year-old was recently called into the squad for a pair of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Colombia and Paraguay, coming on as a second-half substitute against Paraguay. Makoun also started at left back in two friendlies last November against Panama and Syria. The versatile defender and midfielder previously featured for Venezuela 23 times at the youth international level, including 14 appearances for the Under-20 side, serving as captain nine times.
This season with the Revolution, Makoun has recorded one assist over eight MLS appearances, including five starts. In four MLS seasons, Makoun has accumulated 59 league appearances, 41 of them starts.
