LSU head coach Brian Kelly yells at his offense after a delay of game penalty in the second quarter of the game against Oklahoma on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
LSU football coach Brian Kelly said the Tigers would be “very aggressive” in the transfer portal going into his fourth season, and players have already started making decisions.
Kelly indicated LSU would be willing to spend more money and sign “one of, if not the largest, transfer portal classes” in the country after steadily pivoting away from the transfer portal over the past three years.
“I’m excited about what the roster could look like,” Kelly said. “I’m excited about what kind of football team we can put on the field. It’s going to be a fun couple of months.”
The transfer portal opens from Dec. 9-28 and runs again from April 16-25 around spring practice. Players have to enter the transfer portal before the deadlines, but they can choose a new school at any time. Some players have already decided to enter the portal before it opens.
LSU needs to use the transfer portal to address certain positions. With an 8-4 record going into their bowl game, here’s a tracker of who leaves and joins the Tigers throughout the offseason.
None
Jordan Allen, S — Allen, a former three-star recruit from Lafayette, started the first two games of the 2024 season at safety, then saw his snaps take a sharp decline. He recorded 14 tackles before a nagging toe injury shelved him for the final six games of his redshirt sophomore year.
Da’Shawn Womack, DE — Womack is a former five-star recruit and accumulated 2.5 sacks and 21 total tackles in two seasons with the Tigers. The talented edge rusher was a part of LSU’s rotation at edge rusher but he never broke through as a starter. He did not play in LSU’s last three games.
CJ Daniels, WR — Daniels transferred to LSU from Liberty last offseason and finished this year with 42 catches for 480 yards. His decision to enter the transfer portal comes as a surprise after he and Kelly stated that Daniels would be returning next season.
Rickie Collins, QB — Collins, a redshirt freshman from Baton Rouge, played in four games over the past two seasons. This year, he completed all five of his passes for 35 yards and ran four times for 18 yards. But when Garrett Nussmeier had to briefly leave the regular season finale with an injury, LSU inserted junior AJ Swann.
Landon Ibieta, WR — Ibieta was a three-star recruit from Mandeville who struggled to get on the field at LSU. He missed a lot of time because of injuries, and LSU had receivers ahead of him on the depth chart. He made two catches for 15 yards in three seasons.
