BATON ROUGE — LSU football secured bowl eligibility more than a month ago.
But a three-game losing streak can make any team feel like it’s going nowhere. The Tigers (7-4, 4-3 SEC) did finally snap their skid last Saturday night inside Tiger Stadium, defeating Vanderbilt, 24-17.
LSU has one more game to better itself in the pecking order of bowl game selection from the Southeastern Conference as it hosts newcomer to the league Oklahoma (6-5, 2-5) Saturday night (6 p.m., ESPN).
As it stands, there is likely four to five teams that could be plucked during the bowl designation process before the Tigers but a win over the Sooners to get to eight total wins could improve that standing.

LSU FOOTBALL TO BE AGGRESSIVE IN PORTALLSU football to be ‘very aggressive’ in upcoming transfer portal window, Brian Kelly says
For the first time this season, most experts predict that LSU ends up in Houston on New Year’s Eve for the Texas Bowl (Dec. 31, 3:30 p.m. ESPN). Before this week, Gator Bowl and Music City Bowl have been the most popular projections for the Tigers the last several weeks.
ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, Athlon Sports, College Football News, CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm and Bleacher Report all see LSU playing in the Texas Bowl this bowl season.
This matchup is in the slightest of majorities as this week projectionists have eight different opponents at five different bowl sites, which could suggest that it’s really unclear where the Tigers end up playing this bowl season.
But the Sporting News projects an LSU-TCU contest in the Liberty Bowl (Dec. 27, 7 p.m., ESPN). CBS Sports has an LSU-TCU showdown in the Texas Bowl.
Outside of landing in the College Football Playoff, which would include semifinal games at the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl this season, there are as many as nine possible bowl game destinations for the Tigers.
The SEC has seven primary tie-ins with bowl games, while there are two other locations that the league could help fill if needed.
Primary tie-ins include the Liberty Bowl vs. the Big 12, the Las Vegas Bowl vs. to be determined (it was supposed to be PAC-12), the ReliaQuest Bowl vs. the Big Ten/ACC, the Texas Bowl vs. the Big 12, the Gator Bowl vs. the ACC and the Music City Bowl vs. the Big Ten.
LSU could also fill a spot at the Birmingham Bowl vs. the American Athletic Conference or the Gasparilla Bowl vs. the ACC/American, both of those bowl games are secondary tie-ins.
