Stanford shocks Louisville football, snaps Cardinals’ winning streak with late-game rally
Coverage during the game:
No. 24 Louisville football is making its first ACC trip out West when it plays Stanford today.
The programs have never met on the gridiron. The Cardinals are large favorites and have a chance to win four straight ACC road games for the first time in program history. It would be another record for the team this season after defeating Clemson for the first time.
The Cardinals’ high-powered offense is looking to put together another balanced performance with running back Isaac Brown and wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks nearing 1,000 rushing and receiving yards, respectively. Brown needs 200 yards, and Brooks needs 159 yards over the next three games.
Emmet Kenney makes a 52-yard field goal to win the game. The Cardinals had two defensive penalties prior to the kick.
The Cardinal ties it up on a 25-yard pass from Justin Lamson to Emmett Mosley, his third TD catch of the game.
The Cardinal improved to 2-for-2 on fourth-down conversions after Ashton Daniels’ 4-yard TD throw to Emmett Mosley to cut into the Cardinals’ lead.
Duke Watson scored his third touchdown of the day on a 5-yard run. Tyler Shough was also 6-for-6 passing for 56 yards during the drive.
Ashton Daniels has the Cardinal’s first TD since the first quarter on a 13-yard TD to Elic Ayomanor. He then runs in the 2-point conversion on the second try. Louisville was called for a penalty on the first conversion attempt.
Duke Watson scores his second TD of the day on a 68-yard run. He only had two TDs coming into the game.
According to the Louisville radio broadcast, Cardinals running back Isaac Brown has been ruled out of the game against Stanford. He finished with three yards on two carries.
Per the Louisville Sports Network, Cardinals running back Isaac Brown has a right shoulder contusion and is nursing it with a heating pad.
Chris Bell corrals in a 10-yard pass from Tyler Shough for the score before halftime, ending the 7-play, 53-yard drive.
Duke Watson has a clear path and scores on a 5-yard run to give the Cardinals the lead.
The Cardinals’ defense holds the Cardinal out of the end zone, but Stanford still comes away with points on Emmett Kenney’s 24-yard field goal.
Don Chaney runs in a 1-yard TD for the Cardinals’ first score of the game, which came after Corey Thornton’s interception. The drive was highlighted by Ja’Corey Brooks’ 29-yard catch.
Emmett Mosley scores on a 62-yard TD reception from Ashton Daniels after the Cardinal’s defense forces Louisville into a 3-and-out.
Emmet Kenney kicks a 41-yard field goal to give the Cardinal the first lead of the game. It came after Gaethan Bernadel’s interception on the second play of the Cardinals’ opening drive.
Louisville vs. Stanford will be broadcast nationally on the ACC Network. Jorge Sedano and Orlando Franklin will call the game from the booth at Stanford Stadium, with Morgan Uber reporting from the sideline.
Louisville 49, Stanford 10. Last year, Stanford transfer defensive lineman Stephen Herron said “The Library” was the nickname for Stanford’s football stadium. The lack of home-field advantage and Louisville’s momentum should be the two key ingredients to a blowout and a three-game winning streak for the Cardinals.
