Melanie Hasler in second place ahead of Breeana Walker
Winterberg (RWH) Bobsleigh pilot Lisa Buckwitz (GER) won the third Monobob race of the 2024/25 IBSF World Cup in Winterberg. With a new track record time (58.25 seconds) and thus almost three tenths of a second faster than her own old best, the 2023 and 2024 World Championship bronze medallist relegated Switzerland’s Melanie Hasler (0.09 seconds back) to second place. For Hasler, the third overall in the World Cup (combined ranking) in 2024, it was the first podium finish of the pre-Olympic season.
In third place at the IBSF World Cup in Winterberg: Australia’s Breeana Walker (0.28 seconds back), fourth in the World Championships in 2023 and 2024.
Junior World Champion Debora Annen of Switzerland celebrated her best result by far in the World Cup in Winterberg: the 22-year-old, who is currently competing in her first season in the IBSF World Cup, finished in fourth place of 24 athletes, leaving amongst others World Champion Laura Nolte (GER) in fifth place and silver medallist Andreea Grecu (ROU) in sixth place behind her.
Seventeen-year-old Youth Olympic Champion Maja Voigt of Denmark finished in 17th place in her IBSF World Cup debut.
After three of eight races, Lisa Buckwitz (GER, 660 points) leads the overall IBSF World Cup 2024/25 standings ahead of Laura Nolte (GER, 619) and Breeana Walker (AUS, 584).

Lisa Buckwitz (GER): ‘A solid race, I’d say. I’m actually not completely satisfied with my runs. But it’s something to build on, a good start to the new year.’
Melanie Hasler (SUI): ‘I was never really that thrilled about Winterberg. But I never gave up on the idea that I would have a good race here one day. I felt really good today and after the first run, so many of the pilots came up to me and said, “You can do it and get that podium spot”. Of course, that makes it even better.’
Breeana Walker (AUS): „I’m really happy with both heats, except for corner zero, this messed me up so bad during the week. My sled is also running really well. I can’t wipe the smile off my face ans I’m excited to take this energy tot he next races“
