Speaking after receiving the America Award from MARCA, the Inter Miami forward emphasized that staying happy and healthy is his current focus.
“I haven’t set a goal to reach the World Cup,” Messi said.
“I don’t like to accelerate time or look ahead. I try to enjoy every day. I hope I can keep playing at this level to feel good and be happy.”
At 37, Messi’s career has already reached historic heights. He completed his trophy collection by winning the World Cup in 2022, a moment that many thought would mark his international swansong.
However, Messi hasn’t completely ruled out playing in 2026, leaving a small glimmer of hope for fans to see him one last time on the world stage.
“In the moment, we will see. I don’t like to look too far ahead,” he added.
Though now playing for Inter Miami in the United States, Messi’s level of performance remains elite.
He recently scored his 58th career hat-trick with Argentina and helped Miami win the MLS Supporters’ Shield, keeping his hunger for success alive.
Lionel Messi has already claimed 48 major trophies throughout his remarkable career, but the Argentine star is still eager to add more silverware.
With Inter Miami preparing for their final Eastern Conference match against the New England Revolution this weekend, Messi will now turn his focus to the playoffs.
He’ll be aiming to make history by leading the Herons to their first-ever MLS Cup victory.
While the door to the 2026 World Cup remains open, Messi’s main focus is living in the moment and enjoying the game he loves.
For now, fans will have to wait and see if the Argentine icon will grace the tournament once again.
