OMAHA, Neb. (KSNB) – The NSAA state boys soccer tournament continued in Omaha on Saturday with the semifinal round.
No. 4 Lexington took on 8-seed Mount Michael Benedictine in the Class B semifinals and won 2-0 to advance to the state championship game for the third time in four years.
“It’s very important to us, especially since we’ve fallen short two times already in a row,” said senior Alexander Perez-Tunay, who scored a goal in the semifinal. “It’s just important to win this next game that we’ve got.”
The Minutemen will play a familiar foe for the title: Omaha Skutt Catholic. The Skyhawks have beaten Lexington 2-1 each of the two times they met in the championship.
“They’re the program everybody wants to be, I say that in terms of a team that wins championships,” Lexington coach Joel Lemus said. “They’re the team that everyone wants to emulate in that area anyway. We’re looking forward to knocking off the kings that have been for Class B the last few years.”
