Sudan head coach, Kwasi Appiah, has pledged to lead the Falcons of Jediane to qualify for 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Appiah, who signed a three-year contract with the Sudanese FA earlier this year, has already achieved significant success. Despite the ongoing civil unrest in Sudan, he guided the national team to secure a place in the 2025 AFCON, which will be hosted in Morocco.
In the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Sudan currently leads Group B with 10 points from four matches, positioning them strongly to make history.
Reflecting on his goals, Appiah revealed in an interview that his ambition extends beyond AFCON qualification.
“When I was appointed, I wasn’t given specific targets but was tasked to build a team over a few years. I explained that this would be challenging due to the unrest and the limited number of clubs participating in CAF competitions,” Appiah shared with Asempa FM.
“I convinced them that if they supported me, I could qualify the team for AFCON and the World Cup. Now, we have achieved AFCON qualification,” he added.
Appiah also acknowledged the importance of continuity in the squad, noting that five players he coached at Al Khartoum during his time in Sudan in 2015 were still part of the national team.
“I relied on these players to help reconnect with others, and their assistance has been invaluable,” he said.
He praised Sudanese players for their discipline and eagerness to learn.
“They are always willing to improve and often seek feedback to ensure they are on the right track. Their commitment has been a key factor in our success.”
