The inaugural edition of the Kings World Cup Nations soccer tournament has set various viewership and engagement milestones, including 100 million viewers tuning into the action over the competition’s ten days.
The 16-team Kings World Cup Nations is an international seven-a-side soccer tournament based on the Kings League format co-founded by former Barcelona and Spain star Gerard Piqué.
The 100 million viewers watched across a variety of platforms, including Twitch, YouTube, Kick, TikTok and Facebook, with more than 75 different channels seeing viewership for the Kings World Cup Nations. Team presidents, which included content creators such as US social media star Jake Paul, also streamed games live on their individual channels.
Traditional media partners included CBS Golazo Network in the US, ESPN and Disney+ in Latin and South America, Sky Sport in Italy, MBC and Saudi Sports Company (SSC) in the Middle East and North Africa, and DAZN in Japan and Australia.
“The success of Kings World Cup Nations is beyond our expectations with these numbers for viewership and engagement,” said Djamel Agaoua, chief executive of Kings League.
“All of us at Kings League would like to thank the players and coaches for making the Kings World Cup Nations tournament an incredibly emotional experience and congratulate our champions – Brazil – for being worthy winners.
“Furthermore, to our incredible fans around the world, thank you for your support and engagement as we continue to strive to bring you the most exciting brand of football in the world. Thank you to our partners for their support and belief in Kings League, to the legends who joined our adventure and to our team – the best in the world – for organising the entire tournament in less than six months.”
Though Kings League favours showing its matches for free on streaming platforms, Agaoua has told SportsPro that the competition would be open to working with traditional broadcasters in the future provided they are willing to invest in the product.
