The inaugural edition of the Kings World Cup Nations has arrived, with the unique tournament set to take place from Jan. 1-12.
The Kings World Cup Nations features teams from the Kings League and Americas Kings League, the latter of which was created by Barcelona and Spain legend Gerard Piqué.
The seven-v-seven competition will feature 16 teams from across the world, including the United States as well as traditional powers like Spain, Germany, Brazil and Argentina.
Teams will face each other in a preliminary phase consisting of two matches. Teams that win both games will advance directly to the quarterfinals. Teams that win one game and lose the other will go to the last chance round, which will give them them a chance to reach the last eight. Teams that lose both games will be eliminated.
The tournament will take place in Milan, Italy, with the exception of the final, which is set for Jan. 12 at Turin’s Allianz Stadium, home of Juventus.
Games will be 60 minutes long and feature several unique rules, including a “golden goal” wrinkle that sees goals in the last two minutes of each game count double.
The Kings World Cup Nations will be broadcast in the United States on the YouTube channels of CBS Sports Golazo and Telemundo Deportes, with CBS Sports Golazo Network also carrying several matches.
